Laser cards replaced by debit cards, hike in card fees

Created Friday, 12th August 2011, 09:07 by Whykay
The card fee hikes are on the retail side, instead of a flat 15c charge for each transaction, retailers can be charged up to €1.55 per transaction. That's a huge jump.

So inevitably, the consumer will also bear the brunt of these hikes from retailers passing on the costs to them.

Would this also mean consumers will be carrying more cash around as well? I wonder if there are hidden charges for the consumer? There's no information about that aside from the article stating that the debit card is the same as the laser card.
