Cantonese in HK a dying language?

Created Sunday, 10th June 2012, 22:21 by Whykay
Will Cantonese die out in Hong Kong as soon as in 50 years time as mentioned in this article? That's a scary thought. I cannot imagine Hong Kongers not speaking in Cantonese, other dialects like Hakka is still hanging about in the New Territories, but mainly with the older generation. It's a whole culture in Hong Kong, and will it end up in the history museums. All the colourful sayings that's part and parcel of Cantonese will be lost. The formal Cantonese you hear, for example, on the news compared the day-to-day uses are so different.

To those who are Cantonese speakers, what are your thoughts?
