Irish Born Chinese

Cultural BBQs between HK Chinese and the west

Created Sunday, 17th April 2011, 22:39 by Whykay
I notice that BBQ'ing in Ireland (any country in the west), only one person does all the cooking while everyone else sits and chat away from the heat and smoke. What's the fun in that?

Hong Kongers BBQ around the fire together, cooking whatever they want with their own BBQ forks. It's also pretty social, just like a campfire. And in the summertime, the BBQ smoke keeps away the mozzies (this is handy in HK).

I find HK Chinese BBQs much more fun as everyone gets to be together while BBQ'ing and you don't miss anything. Whilst I find myself getting stuff ready and have the other half cooking and missing out on chat, and also normally the last for food.

It's just a cultural difference, that's all. I find myself trying to explain why everyone should be cooking at the BBQ instead of one person. People should try, it's really a lot of fun!
